In my school, we offer a parenting university where they learn ways to improve their parenting skills.

In my school, there is a coffee shop where parents can come and visit and share with other parents tips and ideas on how to help their children with school work or another school-related issues. We are also aware of our family’s life schedule and we adjust the school times and activities accordingly.

We have parents volunteering to watch students during lunch break on the play grounds, we also have parents to serve in some committee and all the results are positive. It create that oneness between parents, teacher and students.

Our school falls under the umbrella of the church so we can reach out to families in the community and offer growth courses. These courses often times cover parenting issues or spiritual growth in the home. Our school also allows parents opportunity to volunteer whether that be in the classroom or leading a mentor group on chapel days. I have personally been able to meet with individual families and walk them through what it looks like to plan for 4 years of high school and be ready to graduate. Through these different programs I’ve seen much community growth at our school.

A few weeks back we held a Field Day at our school and invited parents to lead a game at each of the stations. It was so much fun to see parents instruct each group of students, to see them interact with each student, and to marvel together (parents and teachers) at how well the students completed each task. Many parents opened up a lot about the different challenges they were currently facing this year (a wonderful opportunity to let them know that they have our support and that we have theirs!!). It was definitely a relationship-building opportunity for both parents and teachers alike. I hope we do it again next year!
