We keep open lined of communication on course apps and pages on social media. We have a Parent Teacher Fellowship that allows parents to give input and also support teachers.

There are many ways to support parents. Our school offers many of the ideas that was presented in the lecture. An example is we are having a night where parents can learn more about technology.

At my school we have an app that we use to communicate important classroom information weekly. This helps families know what their child is learning, get updates on classroom needs and provides an opportunity for teachers and parents to communicate when face-to-face isn’t an option.

We communicate with parents by e-mail, we have a Back to school night where the parents come and meet the teachers, we circle the wagon every time a student needs support, we have newsletter of all the school events and we have academic meetings with parents every quarter.

Parents are included in events. They get the parents to join in on class’s if they would like or even volunteer. I didn’t have a voice at one time. Then when my voice was coming back. I was allowed to come in the school and read to the course with a microphone. I believe the school is a healing process also for the parents and students. The students was able to let me know they didn’t understand and I would repeat. They let us know up front we can be apart of what is going on in course.
