Our teachers regularly communicate with our parents, we have informal email as a tool of communication, but also school software tools that automatically send notifications to families. Teachers are available after school hours to meet with parents outside of those times. We also have Facebook groups, parenting training sessions, and parenting prayer groups set up to help support our parents.

Sitting down with parents and getting to know them is a great way to open doors and build relationship. Most of my parents know that they can come to me with any issue, from learning aids to prayer. My school does encourage volunteerism and we have a PAC that is moderately engaged with the staff. I have a weekly homework hall where I help the students, or parents, or both. I have also done homework halls where it is just a help for the parents to have their child somewhere safe after school. Lunch dates with Moms and being available for students to talk to also builds community in our school atmosphere. We are all family and that is really important to me in a school where any student from any church or not church should feel wanted and accepted. I have parents on speed dial and visa versa because of the trust and relationship. We also have homemade lunches in the freezer and other similar supports.

Our school supports parents in many ways. They open childcare early so that parents can drop off since we don’t have much of a transportation service. We are also asked by administration to reach out to parents regularly, particularly about positive things.

Our school supports parents by communicating with them in various ways. If a parent cannot meet for a conference at a traditional time, my school has flexible times outside of school hours that the parents can speak with the teachers. My school can also use different modalities. The parents will treat the school as a partner in educating their child.

We listen to them, encourage them. and pray for and with them.
