In what ways do you feel you currently nurture your students? How have you seen this impact them?

I try to have a classroom where kids can speak their mind. Where they can be accepted for who they are. Also, I never have a moment of the day free because the kids congregate in my course early between courses. But I do need to make the most of this time and the time at the beginning of course touching into each kid’s life.

I think I am very good at listening to students, to encouraging them, even when they are struggling, and talking with them when they are making mistakes. I always encourage them to do their best, or we discuss what choices would be better for them and their classmates.

I keep track of my students hobbies and outside activities. I frequently ask how they are going. I’m also very real with my students. If I’m asked to monitor a situation by my administration or parents, I tell the students and talk out why. Many times students don’t realize they are affecting one another in ways that carry home. My classroom is the teen refuge after school. I teach elementary. Sincerely, I really just call them out on their drama and make them talk to each other even if it is super awkward. I believe relationships are the hardest thing God asks of us. Learning to work the communication issues out early helps.

I like to listen to my students and give them respect. I have seen students respond in kind and make them more likely to work with me if issues arise.

Spending the time with them, having fun during our lessons, listening to them and building our relationship, have definitely help to see many changes in my students.
