In what ways do you feel you currently nurture your students? How have you seen this impact them?

I talk to my kids on a regular basis about what is going on in their lives. We laugh and we cry together. I pray with my students. I discipline those who are not following the rules in a loving way. My students seem to enjoy course and encourage one another and also encourage each other when someone is not doing what they should be, to do the right thing.

When possible I speak individually with students and try to get a sense of their circumstances. I tend to pay more attention to the “squeaky wheel”, however. I believe I can plan to have a wider impact.

On the hallways I say hi to my students and ask them how they are doing, this serves in a two way, one to make sure that I see them and to have them practice their target language.
I am very good at observing my students and when their actions do not follow their normal pattern I ask them how they are doing.
At the end of the semester I give “awards” to my students. -
I ask open ended questions that they can not answer with a “Yes or No” answer, and then I just listen. I will give them affirmation by repeating some of the things they have said, so that they feel heard.

I always welcome students to come into my room and chat with me, even when I had to do my work and they do theirs. Sometimes, they just chat between themselves and just needed a space to unwind. We would have lunch together while talking about a recent movie we’ve seen or a restaurant that just opened.
