In what ways do you feel you currently nurture your students? How have you seen this impact them?

I greet every student I see in the hallways before school and I welcome them to each course. We take time to read devotions and pray together at the beginning of each course. I pay close attention to who they hang out with and what they like and make sure to engage them in conversations about areas of interest outside of science.

As a Bible teacher, I feel an acute responsibility to take great care in nurturing my students. Right or wrong, it seems to me that students will, to some extent, equate God, the Bible, and Christianity with the way that I treat them. I am therefore very interested in not just the education of my students, but in the care of my students. I want to teach them what God says in his word, but I also want to treat them as God would treat them, both as a support/encouraging and, when beneficial, as a disciplinarian. It is my sincere hope that this approach will help nurture my students by not only teaching them content, but by attracting them to a genuinely Christian way of life.

One of my students asked me to have prayer with him after he told a lie. It was so precious!

I literally nurture students with snacks. I recognize the mannerisms and ask what is going on when they are not being themselves. I talk to them when they come into course. I see that they are more willing to learn and interact with the course, as well as with me.

I always greet them by name and a smile. I offer help during my lunch break or after school. I keep the room organized, clean, and safe. I encourage them to do their best and I discipline them with love.
