Affirmation of their positive behavior or that I believe they can overcome challenges has gone very far in impacting my students. Being fair with discipline also has earned me the respect of my classes.

I always make a point of greeting each and every student at the beginning of the day and asking how they are doing or what kind of fun activities they did over the weekend. By engaging in conversations other then our academic topics, the students know that we care about them because we are taking the time to ask how they are doing. This approach makes our students feel seen and heard and that they know we are someone who is in their corner to encourage them and uplift them.

I currently nurture my students by making a conscious effort to connect with them on a personal level by talking to them about what’s important in their lives. I get to know their interests, then ask about their interests in future conversations. I build time in my schedule to attend their events, whether it be a game, concert, show, or recital. When my students are struggling in my class, I take the time to figure out the root problem of their struggle in order to better support them. I have noticed that having this relationship with my students gives them confidence to come ask me for advice. My prayer is that my students know how much I love and care for them, but more importantly they know how much I love the Lord.

I greet them at the door every morning and down the hall throughout the day. I will go support them at their extracurricular activities .
