I work with students who are uniquely wired. I get to spend 30-50 minutes one-on-one with my students, during the school day, working on areas in which they struggle. That student gets my undivided attention and I have the opportunity to build connections and really learn about the child. I often incorporate things the child is interested in when I plan lessons. I get the opportunity to ask the child questions about their life and show them I care about how they are doing, not only in school, but in all areas. I am blessed to have the opportunity and time to really nurture these individual children. Often, these children who struggle, can feel defeated and stop applying themselves. It is my prayer and hope everyday that my nurturing prevents these students from following that path and, instead, see their worth and what they are capable of!

I started to understand their struggles with time management. Instead of condemning them for poor time management, I understand their struggle and encourage them to be different the next day. They already know what they are doing wrong. I realized that sincere encouragement impacts these students to make wiser choices because they know that their teacher really cares for them.

I am intentional in meeting with each student one on one to check ins with academics as well as with life. It is helpful because I am able to breakdown importance of completing work as well as build a relationship with each one.

I nurture my students by taking the time to get to know them. I go to their games and activities. I enjoy getting into the lunchroom and talking to my students throughout the day. I actively seek to disciple and mentor kids who are open to it.

Morning Bible lessons begin with prayer. We share concerns which are often deep ones about family. Also there is a prayer box, never to be opened, only prayed over. This has been a way in which kids get to know each other and realize that others concerns can have a great impact on their lives. It develops compassion.
