I make them feel valued by asking them questions about what they do outside of school. I do my best to get to know them individually so they know I value them as a person, not just as a student. I ask their opinions when we are discussing Bible topics. I pray for them.

I tell my students that God made them and each one is special in their own way. I tell them that they can do whatever they need to do with God’s help. We talk about God’s grace and mercy for us. I talk about how it’s ok to make mistakes and that we can learn from them. I get to know my students personalities.

I make my students feel valued by forming relationships. I share my life and heart with them and give them a safe place to do the same. We often pray together and discuss the situations they face here at school and at home.

Value is such an important “need’ in the classroom. I stop and take the necessary time when students show up unannounced and ask, “Will you listen?”. Showing them, they are important enough to stop what I am doing and simply listen shows them how much I value them. They are important, how they feel is important, and the fact they chose ME…it’s important that I listen. After I finish talking with a student, I refer them back to the Bible, then I pray with them before they leave my classroom. They need to know that I take things straight to Jesus, and they should too.

Each student is unique and everyone is different, we are all created in the image of God, yet we are all different. Who can know the ways and mind of God? How vast His riches and wisdom are, how powerful and majestic is He. Each one of my students have been imparted with a piece of Him, unique and beautiful. No need to care about how a person matches up to another, embracing the uniqueness of the beauty God gave the individual!! How He loved them so, that they don’t all look alike! God made each one of them special for His purpose and His reasons, seeking Him for the mysteries and answers of who they are, why they are here, where they should go, how they should get there, and what is to be done when they arrive are all proof and reasons to see how valuable they are. Each one of us has a calling and we all don’t get to do and be the same while doing it.
