I want them to feel like they can come and talk to me about anything, and I will try to give them the best Godly advice that I can. I like to keep an open forum of communication, and I believe that shows them that they are valued.

I sincerely care about each student in my classes so my lessons are created in a way that meets their academic, social and emotional needs and I adjust as needed. I check in with students individually to see how they are doing, and give them words of hope and encouragement but I am aware of many moments that are challenging to deal with certain students. I tell them that it’s ok to fall apart sometimes but we matter and are deeply cared by God.

I inquire about their lives, their families, their pets, their hobbies. We pray together. I treat them and families with respect and love and help them as far as I’m able.

I always tell them that they are loved. I show them that they are loved by hugging them, praying with them, and extending grace. Some of my students come from very broken families. They struggle academically and need to be celebrated in the small things. They need to feel safe and valued. Part of loving our neighbor is doing these things. I know it may not sound like much, but being that kid in elementary school, the teachers who did these things had the greatest impact in my life. I felt seen and known. I hope everyone in my class feels seen, known, and loved. Not just by me but by God. I want them to know that God loves them and sees them. He cares for them and values them.

I make sure to show an interest in their lives. I ask questions to learn who they are, outside of being my student. I work with students that have learning challenges. So, I make sure they know that God made them who they are for a reason and that they are perfect and loved. I make sure they have every opportunity to learn and grow.
