I write them notes a few times a year telling them something I appreciate about them or what they are good at. I also remind them everyone can learn and have a positive atmosphere in the classroom. They can all do it. I even tell them I only has smart students. I also work very hard for them and they see that.

I reflect God’s value of them. God values and holds the worth of mankind in that this, “while we were yet sinners, Christ died.” His ultimate love and sacrifice, speaks to the value that God holds for us. As I’ve heard it said, if I was the only person on the planet, Christ would have come, suffered and died for me. That’s how much worth I have. It’s how much worth each of us has in God’s eyes. As an educator who comes alongside of a student for a period of time in their lives, I reflect and cherish this value that God holds of them.

In the morning I start with prayer and devotions at school with my coworkers and before I go and pick up the kids from morning care I pray for each child in my classroom. When it is my teaching time (I coteach) I start my day with prayer in the classroom with the children and ask the students if they have any prayer requests. Sometimes it may be small things, but sometimes they open-up about things that are going on in their life at home and we pray about it and praise God for all our blessings and the things he has done in our life. Encouragement in a classroom is a key to a successful classroom. Students are encouraged and told daily that I love them, and that God loves them. Praises every day how awesome our God is and how we can praise him in school.

By making sure they know I care about them and who they are, but also teaching them truth.

Simple morning greetings, individual feedback on assignments, grace extended during difficult times in their lives, getting to truly know them, attending/supporting their extracurriculars, recognizing their well-roundedness, etc.
