I try to acknowledge each student’s birthday. Before course begins, I will talk to the students about their hobbies and interests. During course I give positive feedback to students. I encourage all students to ask any question. I encourage the struggling learners to participate in course. I listen to my students and pray for them.

Talk to them, encourage them. Listen to what they have to say! Above all, love them and pray for them!

I ensure my students know they are created in the image of God and they are all unique. I celebrate the gifts and unique skills God has given them. I let them express themselves with those skills and gifts and encourage them to keep developing these special characteristics to glorify God.

As a middle school world language teacher, I incorporate student input and sharing into our curriculum. Conversations and course co-created stories incorporate and reflect their interests, imaginings, activities, etc. When we discuss the calendar, we always include conversation around what is going on in their lives. We celebrate student birthdays in course, allowing them to be the guest of honor at a conversational Q&A event where they are given the opportunity to share about their families, their favorite things, any extra-curricular activities, etc. All of this takes place in the target language. I also take time during the year to let individual students know when/how they have positively impacted me as a teacher.

I make my students feel valued by showing that I care about who they are: their feelings, interests, activities, and passions.
