In what ways do you make your students feel valued?

I pray for them. I listen to their prayers in our classroom prayer circles. I encourage them to trust God and believe his word. I tell them that they are made in his image. We are the most important part of creation and that we all were made for a purpose.

I try to greet each of them by name when possible. That is a challenge sometimes as the media specialist who sees so many students, but I believe it makes them feel valued when someone knows their name.

I try to get to know each one, talk with them about faith, and understand what is going on in their life. It matters that each student feels as if I am someone rooting for them and wanting to see them grow in their faith walk with God.

I can’t think of anything that makes students feel more seen, known, and loved than genuinely taking an interest in their lives, what they struggle with, and what they are passionate about. The importance of listening and genuine question asking cannot be overstated. We have two ears and one mouth for a reason.
