I want to affirm critical thinking and open dialog. I want them to know that I value their thinking and learning process, not just parroting the correct answers.

I try to remind students that everyone learns differently. Then we work together to determine how that student can better grasp new lessons.

I like to ask them about what is going on in their lives, classes, or about special interests they have. I know they love to feel they are valued because a teacher took the time to really get to know them and care about them.
