In what way(s) does your belief in Jesus Christ currently influence your classroom?

My belief in Jesus allows me to speak with confidence about the Bible. It also is a consistent reminder to demonstrate love to my students.

The biggest way my belief in Jesus Christ influences my classroom is how I interact and treat my students. I want to treat my students with the same love and respect that Jesus would treat me and them.

One major way I have noticed this affect my classroom is the way I address certain topics. In History course, we often deal with hard facts of history that reveal the brokenness of humanity. My belief in Jesus Christ tells me that the world is deeply fallen and broken, but that we can have hope in Jesus Christ alone. This belief is conveyed to my students to yes, address the hard reality of the world we live in, but also provide hope to students who are feeling discouraged.

Jesus Christ took my deserved punishment and gave me His life in exchange for my sin. He is the reason I want to be teaching kids in order to even be a small part of His redemption of the creation in this way. By His Spirit I seek to teach with excellence, pouring grace and truth into each student through every interaction.

My faith is what brought me to a Christian School this past year. My background was a public school teacher, but after almost a decade of teaching we could no longer say anything about our faith. I wasn’t allowed to talk about Christmas or even say Merry Christmas, unless it was said to me to begin with. This mentality is the opposite when in a faith-based education. Jesus Christ should be at the forefront of each classroom. We as teachers want to show our students Christ through us and become more like him daily. Bringing that biblical worldview into each lesson will also show our faith to students, really getting them to walk on their own faith journey, shepherding them along the way.
