In what way(s) does your belief in Jesus Christ currently influence your classroom?

The greatest way my belief in Jesus Christ currently influences my classroom is how I respond to my students. I believe that a biblical framework that includes the creation, fall and redemption should lead a teacher to respond to their students with grace. I am not perfect in this pursuit but I am thankful for his forgiveness and that thankfulness extends to my students. I also believe that it affects the way I engage my students relationally. I greatly value academics but if I don’t value my students relationally, the value of academics is greatly diminished.

Because I teach at a Christian school, I’m able to openly tie my lesson back to the truths found in God’s Word and give students biblical words of encouragement if they are down or struggling with something. I also can openly pray in Jesus’ name with students. If I didn’t believe in Jesus Christ, which is Who all of Scripture points to, then I would not take the time to make the connection in my lessons nor pray in His name during course.

Because God loved His people so much, He sent His only begotten son into the world via a virgin birth, to live the human experience in a fallen world… was then, crucified and rose again, so that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life. Knowing that we have Jesus Christ interceding on our behalf, I am able to go to Him to pray for each student. I am able to remind my students what the virtues of a good person are by using the examples Christ gave us. I am able to relate scripture to various situations…. I am able to demonstrate grace as well as discipline from a place of love. I am also able to see each one of my students as they were uniquely made and are loved by their Creator.

There are questions and comments that come up in the classroom that carry underling beliefs that there are more ways to heaven than through Jesus, there is no absolute truth, and if you are good you can go to heaven. These are false philosophies that we need to refute with God’s Word. John 14:6, “Jesus said, ‘I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'”

It would guide how you discipline, how you approach children and parents. It would also determine what you integrate and how you teach a biblical worldview.
