In what way(s) does your belief in Jesus Christ currently influence your classroom?

It allows me to teach my students the truth about life and their existence and the importance of how they are behaving and representing themselves to others who know they are Christians. Being able to tell my students that what they do is bigger than themselves and more important than they know can help them to stay true to their beliefs as they are exposed to more and more people who do not believe and will try to tear them down.

As a Christian educator, I seek to make my classroom a place where Jesus would feel at home. This means that I treat my students with respect as those created in God’s image and teach them to do the same. Jesus often chastised the Pharisees because of their focus on practices for the sake of self-glory, rather than focusing on people for the sake of God’s glory, so I want my students to know that I care about them as people who are sinners in need of a Savior, just as I am. I encourage them to have a relationship with Him through prayer and reading the Bible.

It is the foundation of my life and therefore the foundation of my classroom. Not a course period goes by with out mention of Christ or the Bible. My classroom rules are derived from Bible principles. My ultimate goal as a teacher is for my students to come to know Christ personally!

My belief in Jesus has the most influence on how I treat my students. I see them as fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who are made in the image of God. On a particularly frustrating day it is Jesus who helps me be patient and kind. Left to myself and my sin nature, I would have a short fuse and be potentially yelling at students. It is the grace I have been offered through Jesus that reminds me to ask myself often, “Can I offer grace?” My belief in Jesus also influences what I teach to students. How wonderful to be able to stop and point out evidence of our Lord and how God is at work in what we are learning.

I would not be teaching if I did not believe what Jesus said. I would treat my students with love and compassion because of what Jesus did for me. Without Jesus, I would (still) be a very selfish, materialistic person.
