Each of us has a battle going on within for “good versus bad.” But when we become followers of Christ, that battle takes on a different perspective. It’s just not a matter of doing what is good (which can sometimes be subjective), but rather working to become imitators of Christ and conducting ourselves according to his character and not our own. Everything about that is contrary to the fleshly desires of our “natural being”. As Christ followers we also must come to terms with the fact that we cannot be victorious in the “way we should walk” on our own, we just don’t have the natural strength to do this. But, God knew that, and that’s why he gave us the Holy Spirit to live within us and give us the ability to control our “natural” impulses and instead walk in a Godly way with and towards other people, as well as for our own joy and fulfillment.

It’s a daily battle between flesh and the Spirit. You have the freedom to choose. Stay tapped into the Spirit to overcome the flesh at all times. If you’re not connected to the source you will give into the flesh.

The “war” discussed by Dr. Dodson in this lesson is the antagonism between the Spirit of God and our sinful nature. That war is an inside battle. Even though Jesus has saved us from our sins, sin is still trying to seduce us , and the Spirit of the Lord who abides in us stands against it.

The war is a constant battle that’s going on inside each one of us. It pits the demonic force and the lusts of the flesh, against the way God is calling us to live through The Holy Spirit.
