It indeed is a war since the flesh seeks supremacy over the man and his spirit. Dr. Dodson characterizes the ‘flesh’ as having two entities. Lowercase “f” flesh is the subjective, daily workings of human life in the flesh. Capital “F” Flesh is the underlying and invisible entity of this evil world and the malevolent workings to thwart the Spirit. Little ‘f’ flesh is scratching an itch or wanting that second bon-bon. Capital ‘F’ Flesh is committment to anger, hatred, lust and such, that can influence an entire person to destroy their own life.

That is an excellent explanation and helps me to understand that much better.

The war is between my sinful flesh and the indwelling Holy Spirit.

There is an evil force within us that wants to have us walk contrary to the Spirit that is in us. Satan is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour looking for opportunity to make us fall. But when we are walking with the Spirit we are strengthened in the battle to make Godly choices.

This war is real, and never more so than the present age of high tech. One has to be ever, ever alert and be ever, ever close to God at all times, so that His Spirit may guide us and lead us.

The fact that there is a conflict between The Spirit & the Flesh taking place in the life of the Chrsitian. These 2 are in opposition to each other. If we yield to the flesh, then we will live characterised by the sins of the flesh, but if we yield to the Holy Spirit, by the power of The Holy Spirit, then we can live a life charactrised by Holiness. The battle is a process of learning to yield to and live by the power of The Holy Spirit. We need to choose to do this, and have the freedom in Chrsit to do so.
