In your own words, describe the “war” discussed by Dr. Dodson in this lesson.

Every day is a battlefield between the power of the Spirit and the desires of the flesh.

We are still tempted daily, but we have the Holy Spirit in us to help us resist temptation and do the works of the Spirit.

I can see the point Dr. Dodson is making about how he wins his war against the flesh, however I am still fighting my own war against the flesh. I am not saying that I don’t appreciate the fact that God granted me the freedom and power of the Holy Spirit given to me when Jesus died for me on the cross. I am forever in His debt and truly thankful for His ultimate sacrifice. I just know that I still need more teaching to help me realize the power within me to maintain the these freedoms and powers. I feel sometimes like the prophet Habakkuk in that I’m still seeing so much injustice in the world and no change is there only more tragedy and moral decline. I know that God isn’t finished with me yet so I am still hopeful that He can “fix” me. I just have to allow His Spirit to finish His work in me.

This war Dr. Dodson talks about is the war between my flesh (that demonic power within me) that is in great opposition to the Spirit of God. It’s more than just biological. This war is constant and ongoing, trying to get me to do what I do not want to do but wants me to do the things I should not do.

The war is between our sinful flesh and the Holy Spirit living in us. We will constantly be in this struggle.
