Is mentorship something you’ve considered as part of your role as a Christian educator? Why or why not?

I see mentorship as my first priority and greatest opportunity. It is where I have seen the greatest change and most long-lasting impressions and influence made in my student’s lives. To me, this is primary.

Absolutely we are all mentors. Any kids we come in contact with, we have an impact on whether it be positive or negative.

Absolutely! At my Christian school, we have discipleship groups that students are assigned to in 6th grade and keep until they leave the 8th grade. We meet after chapel on a weekly basis to pray for one another, discuss what’s going on in our lives, and converse about the message given at chapel. This is an excellent way for the discipleship leaders (teachers and staff members) to speak into the lives of the students in a more specific way. It is also a way for students and staff to be praying for one another throughout the year.

Mentorship is something I have considered as part of my role as a Christian educator because it is the means by which I am able to freely give what the Lord has entrusted to me. The relationship is the context for learning what is fruitful for the purposes of God. So, I’ve been intentional about this over the years.

I guess I haven’t thought about it directly as a mentorship but my belief is that as a teacher I am a mentor. Now, I would like to better merge the two jobs, teacher/mentor, into all areas of my students’, lives especially regarding missions and evangelism.
