Is mentorship something you’ve considered as part of your role as a Christian educator? Why or why not?

Yes. Our Lord Jesus Christ made an example of this by discipling the 12 apostles. One could see the gradual growth attained by the disciples in their understanding of God, which ultimately transformed their walk with God. This is the core of discipleship. It is all about training and forging students into who God has called them to be. This is why I’ve always considered mentorship as a part of my role.

I believe that mentorship is an essential part of my role as a Christian educator, as it allows me to guide my students holistically in every aspect of their lives.

Yes, mentorship is a natural and essential part of being a Christian educator. As a Christian educator, mentorship reflects the biblical principle of discipleship. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Mentorship provides an opportunity to guide students spiritually, academically, and personally, helping them grow into responsible, faith-filled individuals.

Because of the age group that I teach (4-6 year olds), I don’t consider my role as a mentoring role. What I do looks more like a mothering role; a funny but relatable example is when one of my kindergartners several years ago asked her mom to check how old she is with me since I know everything about her. It warmed my heart that a little child felt that deeply connected with me:)

Yes, part of being a Christian educator is mentoring/discipleing students. I still remember my Christian mentors over the years; many were my teachers at my Christian school. I strive to mentor my students also.
