Is mentorship something you’ve considered as part of your role as a Christian educator? Why or why not?

Being a mentor is an essential part of my job. It is the reason why I coach High School sports. I want my students to see Jesus in me and then desire a relationship with him.

Yes, mentorship is something I have considered to be a part of my role as a Christian educator because I have noticed that there is a need for mentorship in our young people in school or in church.

I have not thought about it in the context of school. I have always put it in the context of the church. It can happen in both arenas as long as extra workload isn’t overwhelming to the student. There are some areas that students may need academic guidance that a teacher can help but their youth pastor cannot so I can see the need for multiple mentors in a student’s life.

I have. One of my coworkers and I are thinking about starting a group study. We see how our girls (9th-12th) constantly struggle with relationships, how they perceive themselves. We have seen the constant damage of social media and we have talked about creating a curriculum that teaches to see themselves the way God sees us. And to treat and mainly love other as Jesus loved us.

Honestly, I have not. I came to Christ as an adult, and never experienced mentorship or discipleship as a child – or particularly as an adult… the concept is new to me. The LORD has placed in on my heart this past year; I believe He is drawing me into a deeper understanding of the process and equipping me to actively take part.
