Is mentorship something you’ve considered as part of your role as a Christian educator? Why or why not?

I was expected to do some mentoring one year when I was in public school. I don’t feel that it was very effective, but there wasn’t much in the way of guidance given for it. I also feel that it may have been less effective because of the restrictions on what coul be discussed. In a Christian school, mentoring would come with more freedom to discuss the students’ faith and provide support in ways that could not be done in a public school. When given the chance, I do try to provide some mentorship to the students now.

Yes, I think it is a big part of being a christian educator. It is so important to mentor and disciple the next generation.

This is my first year at a Christian school. I haven’t thought much about it previously. This is because I have been getting my sea legs so to speak. I agree that we should mentor the scholars.

Yes, absolutely. I believe more things are caught than taught. They greatest example you can give students is living a life on mission for Christ. When you invite students in on your life and share how you are intentionally being discipled in the way of Jesus, that shows that you really practice what you preach. And, when you make yourself available to kids, they know they have a safe place to go when they want to process big life decisions.

Mentorship is extremely important as educator because we need to continually grow educators to serve our students better and better. We all have blind spots. Mentors help us to see better and be more effective.
