Is mentorship something you’ve considered as part of your role as a Christian educator? Why or why not?

Our school has a mentorship program for new students, so each new student is paired with another student in their course so they feel welcome in the school and have someone to show them around, introduce them to other friends, etc. The same goes for teachers as well, when a new teacher comes along the more ‘senior’ ones take them under their wing and help them adjust. We also have a Teacher mentorship program where we pair a teacher with a student who needed help whether it’s academic, or behavior issues.

As a first year teacher of Kindergarten the thought of seeing my students grow up is intimidating! I hope to see a day in the future though that students could come back to me and feel safe and secure coming to me with life’s big questions.

Of course! We are always mentoring, whether it be intentional or unintentional. As a teacher, parents have given us a special responsibility. We are expected to walk hand in hand with the parent to guide their children into Christlike adults. Our mentorship is essential for our students.

Yes. Growing up in a Christian school I remember more about what my teachers showed me with their lives than the specific content they taught me.
