Deism – It seams to me a lot of people in America believe in some God that really doesn’t play a big part in their life. He seems distant to them.

Monotheism – A Peculiar Glory is one of my favorite books and describes God, Jesus, and the Spirit acting holding us and keeping us in the faith instead of us holding to the faith.

Pantheism- I had a buddy name Jai that thought we could be one with the earth and reality.

Existentialism- Atheists and people that believe their is no real meaning to life

Nihilism- I believe many in the progressive movement in America really don’t believe there is a moral authority that they should bow down to. It is more their feelings that have the authority over them.

Naturalism- Many teachers in our schools teach that we came from random chance and matter evolving into more complex life forms and ultimately into human life.

Here are some examples that I have thought of:

Monotheism: Duck Dynasty. Their Christian faith is very prevalent.

Deism: Many scientists from the Enlightenment Era that believed that there was a Creator, but that he set the world in place and left it alone. They sought out to discover it.

Naturalism: This is the worldview portrayed in many scientific textbooks today.

Existentialism: The phrase “You do you” which is popular today. It implies that only you know what is right for you, and you set the moral code and meaning for your own life and actions.

Pantheism: This is a random example, but I remember watching a movie “Brother Bear” with my younger brother growing up, which portrayed Native American Shamanism, which is an expression of pantheism.

Nihilism: When I was in high school, the phrase YOLO (You Only Live Once) was popular. The implication was that your actions don’t matter so just go do something crazy.

Monotheism is most common around me in people who actually stick to a worldview. Those around me who aren’t Monotheistic seem to float through life in ways that we could prescribe them with a worldview title… but they aren’t placing it on themselves. Deism and Naturalism are probably the most common in our culture. Unfortunately, Nihilism creeps into the lives of many as well.

monotheism: I believe in one God and He is part of every aspect of my life.

deism: the founding fathers believed that God created the world but then stepped back from His creation to let it rule itself

naturalism: Darwin believed that evolution of the species is how humans came into being, rather than a creator creating humans

nihilism: many people believe that God doesn’t exist and that the world and everything in it is meaningless. They have no hope for the future because they don’t see the point in the world.

existentialism: Nietzsche was an existentialist as he believed that humans have the free will to decide what they want in their life. He believed that everyone is responsible for their own actions and there is no higher power moving people’s will.

pantheism: many people believe that there are many gods and all are acceptable to worship. They believe that any god chosen will get you to salvation (or whatever that particular religion preaches).
