In the lecture he talked about cosmological arguments, cosmic fine-tuning, and intelligent design. I think the strongest argument is the description of the minutest details that have to correspond in order to support life on earth. He states “the odds are agains the universe”.

The cosmological argument argues from the cosmos to a Creator, primarily by appeal to intelligent design.

The moral argument argues, primarily by appeal to conscience, that there is an objective moral law that is best understood as being planted in man by his Creator.

Both arguments make sense, but the cosmological argument appeals more to me because you can find objective, empirical evidence for it from the hard sciences.

Intelligent design and moral theology. Intelligence nt design has always made sense to me based on the awesome wonder of nature. Even if there is no God who loves and dies for us, you cannot believe when looking at animals, planets, oceans and other aspects of creation, that a designer with intelligence was not the one orchestrating thing.

Simplicity principle theory- 1 artist and 1 designer- God is not a being of composite contingent forces, God is uncreated because no one designed the creator.

Intelligent design- things can’t just pop into existence. The universe or cosmos began to exist, therefore the universe has a cause of its existence, and the cause is God the Creator.

I like both of these explanations into how the Earth came to be, science has shown several cases in which things can’t be built without a creator. Martin Rees said “that if the numbers were off even a tiny bit there would be no life.” That can only be due to 1 creator.

    Moral arguments – Anthropological arguments

The Moral argument is strong because we wee the righteousness of God in the bible. The 10 commandments and other laws and we see God’s judgment in the Old Testament and finally we will see Jesus’ judgement. God is a moral God and even if we do not read the bible we have a consience to know what is right and wrong.

The Anthropological argument says we humans are special in the universe because we are made in God’s image and our downfall is best explained by our sin.

Both theses arguments make sense to me but perhaps the Anthropological one best explains overall why we are here and what is God’s overall plan / aim / desire is.
