Of the six genres (narrative, epistle, prophetic, parable, poetry, apocalypse), which do you read most? Which do you read least? Do you have a favorite genre? If so, why do you favor it?

When I first became a Christian, I read narratives the most, because new stories are interesting. Later, I read epistles the most, because they give the most direct help about Christian living. In difficult times, the poetry of the Psalms minister most to me. But now I know you must read the whole Bible, so you must read all six genres (narrative, epistle, prophetic, parable, poetry, apocalypse).
Although apocalypse is fascinating but mysterious, some of the OT prophets sound repetitive, so they are what I read least.
I think narrative is still my favorite genre. It’s easier to identify with the character as a fellow human being, and to find relevant lessons for life. -
Over the years using various reading plans, one encounters various genres simultaneously and/or varied depending on the schedule. My personal favourite is apocalyptic because I want to know and understand that which is to come. The more one reads the Bible and leaning on the power of the Holy Spirit – though obviously there are parts that shall remain hidden- I am excited by these writings !

I find myself reading the epistles most often followed by apocalyptic books. I actually enjoy the epistles most because while the are used to teach about Jesus, they do so in such a way that help me relate better to Him and they also help me to know that I am not a lost cause and even those people who were closest to Jesus’ time had their own doubts and failings.
