I most often and naturally offer support. I tend to do it because I am very passionate about the "best" in people. Prior to this course I thought I was anchoring them in truth but now understand now how that can trivialize someones thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Suprisingly, I actually do all of the "do's" naturally and consistently.

I think among the 3 don’ts, I am particularly inclined to offer support eg affirming or praying with him. I think I do it so that he doesn’t feel like what he is going through reflects badly on him, or that he is all alone in this troubles.
Among the “do’s” that i don’t particularly do well, I think it is the reflecting thinking while listening to him. Maybe it is the fear of silence, or I am too quick to want to be able to say something appropriate in that situation. -
I am too often quick to give advice or try to provide solutions. I have almost never paused to reflect or pray or take a beat, but it certainly sounds very wise

I do advise and I don’t reflectively think as often as I should for the same reason. I feel inadequate to help when there is empty space in conversation. May like they are thinking, wow, he really doesn’t know what to say am I really that messed up? I think often i have leaned on my own understanding for solutions to spiritual problems in others and in my own life rather than trusting in the LORD with all my heart.
