During discussions, I can remind students to embrace what our senses can perceive, not ignore those things. We cannot ignore the objective realities in which we live. I can also relate to them the ways in which my faith has grown, been challenged, and produced fruit of a spiritual nature, thus reminding them of the subjective portion of epistemology.

The challenge that postmodernism present to the Christian view of epistemology is that it teaches to ignore what students observe or experience and to apply whatever meaning to it. As Christian educator I would emphasize about the existence of truth and facts. Our five senses were given to us to observe the world and to know to discover God’s creation and know Him. And that what we observe or experience always needs to be corroborated with the Bible.

Some practical ways I can respond to this postmodernist challenge is to first bring in what does God’s Word say about what we are studying; I can encourage my students to search in God’s Word to find what is true; I can help my students relate that the laws of nature put in place at the time of creation are the same now as they were then and we can trust these laws that God put in place as true and unchanging (which also will help me correlate that God is true and unchanging in His nature); as a course when studying science we can learn to trust our senses that God has given us to learn about His creation and determine what is true about the world around us.

Acknowledge and affirm that students’ feelings and experiences are real and valid, but point them toward unchanging truth and a good, unchanging God. Share personal testimony about how God has worked in my life. Utilize more Scripture in course, and teach students to pray and go to God with difficult experiences and doubts.

Referring to the Word of God which is a sure foundation.
