We need to remember that God’s word is true. Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life. It may be difficult but we can and should remind our students, staff, friends and neighbors that there is no such thing as your truth and my truth. Truth is real and should be proclaimed. Also, we must remember to be salt and light.

This is indeed a challenge in the classroom every day. The prevailing life view of my students seems to be “what I believe is the only thing that matters and if you don’t agree with it then you are wrong.” My greatest concern is what I hear coming from their mouths is what their parents espouse at home. The only way to respond to this is with what God says, but in a loving manner that doesn’t come across as authoritative and with no room for discussion. At some point, God’s Word has got to become their own words too.

As Christian educators, the word of God is our greatest tool, especially when challenged with the world’s view of things. Speaking the truth from the word of God to students is a great guide to this challenge.

Some of the best practical ways to respond to this challenge are to engage the students in conversations that will help them open up using the scriptures to remind them about the truth which is the word of God. The word of God will never depart from their heart if it’s constantly shared. Be a good listener and show that you care and you can stand in the gap concerning their spiritual needs. These students come to school with all personal problems affecting their learning. The need to break the fallow ground, strengthen them with the truth from the scripture, and teach them how to search the scriptures as they pray daily will help them overcome.

The easy way out is to find out what God says about the situation. What does the bible inform us concerning it? There is no new thing under the face of the sun as stated in the book of Ecclesiastics. So let’s pull out the Bible and search it out.
