There have always been challenges to the Christia worldview, even in the Garden of Eden! The best response is to be grounded in the Scriptures and planted in Christ-centered and biblically sound community in which we are practically encouraged and held accountable for living in agreement with the Way. As Christian educators, we can provide solid and consistent instruction in the Scriptures and create biblically sound communities in which our students can be practically encouraged and held accountable for living in agreement with the Way.

I teach fifth grade, so my kids are just reaching that age where this affects them. I push the importance of the actual truth of everything and not subjective truth that the world throws at them. I try to teach them critical thinking skills and not trusting information they may read on the internet and how to test what is opinion versus truth.

In Postmodernism, there is no absolute and you can be your own god. Your feelings are dictating your decisions. This is so very dangerous to humans. We are all made to love and be loved, but in this world, many are only interested in gratifying self. Jesus teaches us to love to the measure that He loved sacrificially, so that our joy may be full. As Christian educators, we must model the love of Christ by responding in a calm and kind manner no matter the situation. God’s word should never be used as a punishment or hammer, but as a guide. Showing students the power of the Word in worship and in prayer is invaluable.
The truth of knowing who they are in Christ is primary. Students need to know that who they are is not dependent on what they do or don’t do, but on what Christ did on the cross for them. He is enough! They are completely loved and fully pleasing to God because of Jesus.

As a Christian educator, I can tell my students what is true about the existence of man. I can also give them scripture and show them how I know this is true.

I have had a conversation with my daughter and a mental health professional about whether or not how we feel or what we want to believe about ourselves makes it a true. I point out that biology will not change because you want it too. You can change what you look like on the outside, but when it comes down to the DNA coding that makes you what you are, it will remain the same. Our society wants our children to believe they can choose to be a boy or a girl or nothing. What TRUTH (don’t get me started on that amazingly awesome rabbit trail) tells us is that each of us has either XX or XY; we are either male or female. That will not change no matter what ways we want it to or do to affect the outward appearance. God has a special plan for each of us and He created us (handmade, according to Psalm 139:13) for that plan. How we feel does not change the underlying TRUTH.
