As a Christian educator, my job is to always bring students back to the truth(s) revealed in God’s Word… To take the time to engage students in discussions about what knowledge is, where wisdom comes from and what the Christian worldview says about both. To remind students that we can use our questions to seek Him more fervently and to understand Him more.

We need to help our students understand that truth can be complex and simple and absolute, which begins by starting with truth in the form of Jesus Christ. Post modernism is a quagmire of ambivalence.

The big practical step we can take is to remind our students that the ultimate authority on what is and is not is God. We can point students to find their answers in Scripture. In addition I think it is important as the postmodern views are brought up by students to not condemn students for spouting what they have heard by the world but to have discussions with students about those views and kindly point out the flaws that often present themselves when a closer look is taken.

I think it is important to share with our students that we too as teachers struggle with answers to hard questions. We also need to instill that if we are not sure about something that we seek God’s word for answers. We need to be careful not base our thinking about what others are saying, or how I feel in that moment on hard subjects. It’s okay to tell a student I’m not sure about the answer right now, can I get back to you after I’ve read the Bible and thought some more about it?

I think now more than ever we have to be rooted in God’s word. When we’re dealing with the issues of the day, we have to be able to teach our students to answer with a “God’s word says….” about each of these “hot button” topics. Standing on that Truth will never change regardless of how much the world around our students changes.
