It is very hard teaching in the postmodernism world. But I hold true to the scriptures in the bible and discuss them with the students when we are talking about touchy subjects. That way, I show the students that it isn’t just what I believe, but it is how GOD intended us to believe and act in the world to glorify him.

Often the challenge comes by way of some scientific principle. They challenge the existence of God because they can not see God nor detect His presence. The fastest way I dispense this problem is by having them think about their own thoughts and challenge them to explain how they know that the are thinking without having some physical sense such as sight detecting it. They know in their own thoughts that they have thoughts yet there is not some tangable thing that they can hand someone that is their thoughts so another someone can handle it and know that it is a thought.

I can keep reminding them that “feeling” is different/separate from truth/fact. As a science teacher, I can emphasize how evidence wins over feelings. The Bible has strong evidence for its validity.

As a Christian educator a few practical ways to combat postmodernism view is by writing the bible verse Philippians 4:6 on the board and having a discussion about different meanings and perspectives. Taking the opportunity for real life teaching moments and being able to guide students who are distressed back to the word of God in scriptures. There are many other verses, but applying the ones that are relevant to the specific situation. Perhaps taking a few minutes to pray, meditate, and perhaps even journal about the different feeling’s individuals experience. Taking the chance to dig deeper into Christian Godly principles and comparing with secular views. As a teacher I can plan seeds of reciting Romans 12:2 to students as they leave our learning space. It’s valuable for students to see teacher modeling self-control and grace through interactions. Our behavior speaks volumes to students we encounter daily.

I challenge my students to think critically about modern worldviews, especially when it comes to interpreting history. It is open to so many interpretations, so I encourage them to view it through God’s lens and His plans for the world.
