Because what was true in the in the Old Testament is still true today. We may be under a New Covenant, but God still offers the hope of salvation of we repent and believe. God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

The whole message of the Bible is that we were created for relationship with our divine creator. No matter what it is we have chosen to partake in, there is a portion of grace for us that we can lean back on to return back to our relationship with God. Today this looks like a practice of joyful repentance when we turn away from sin and we turn back to God because of what Jesus has done for us. The process of repentance practically looked different in the Old Testament, but as we see the heart posture of God is still the same because he has always made a way for us to come back to the Father.

We learn the significant message from Old Testament that God sees our heart trusted and faithful towards God. Because of His unconditional love poured out to us, when we fail, God give us mercy and forgive our sins. This is true today as well as back in the Old Testament times.

It is important to us today to know that God is a gracious and faithful God, who loves us despite our failures. We will fail because of the sinful nature in us but to know that God will welcome us back when we confess and repents of our sins is comforting and gives hope.

We have a God who wants us and desires relationship with us, even if our past does not look like good. He wants to open up his heart and arms to us at any moment.
