While studying literature, I like to give the students biblical analysis questions that they can brainstorm about with their fellow students and then share their thoughts both through words and writing. One of the most effective interactions I have in the classroom is implementing a Socratic Seminar. The kids love debating with one another about literary components from a biblical perspective.

While teaching my students how to cite sources, we evaluate Disney villains from their stories and use evidence from the stories to charge the villains with crimes they’ve committed. I connect this with the ten commandments. We review/discuss the commandments, their purpose in our lives, and then they have to identify at least one commandment the villain broke.

In my language arts course I love to remind students that God created us to be social beings and that He teaches us through His Word how to communicate (how to speak, listen, and write). We also discuss how to use our words to glorify Him and to encourage/bless others, then we look in God’s Word and find scriptures to back it up.

In our chapels we allow our students/courses to bring the bible lesson of the week. This allows our students to take an active role in lesson.
