My course recently read “The Best Christmas Pageant”. We used this story to tie in the ideas of the spirit softening hearts, Jesus causing change in present day. We also discussed how weird the nativity story might sound to someone who never has been exposed.

Our most recent assignment involved taking what was learned in an ecology unit and using the same concepts to describe what changes might have occurred in ecosystems at the fall.

When teaching about Career goals with my students, I get the opportunity to discuss with them on the big questions in life, why do they choose this particular career? is the motivation behind it money, success or will this career enable them to use their talents and gifts and serve God as He wants them to. It helps students to think about their commitment to God as they plan their future.

My freshmen student always read the Holocaust memoir, Night. Throughout the course of the novel we see how the author, Elie Wiesel, is slowly losing his faith. It truly is a heart-wrenching story from beginning to end. We discuss how and why he loses his faith. I have the students write personal reflections as though they were in the story themselves. What would their reaction be? Would they be as prone to lose faith in God? My objective is to show the students that we follow the true religion because see Jesus as the Messiah. This allows big questions teenagers in church usually face: Why would a gracious God allow a horrible evil to fall on His creation? We discuss hard truths and bigger mysteries through the lens of Scripture. I teach them about God’s will. That He is in control and allows things to happen for our good and His glory, even if we can’t understand it. I teach my kids that sometimes we have to be okay with not knowing all the answers and trusting that God will do good because He is good.
