Not only do I take time to avoid reading some passages which may be entirely inappropriate, but while introducing certain lessons, I will ask the students to raise their hands every time an inappropriate attitude, such as unforgiveness, is encouraged or mentioned. Students and I will then quote verses from the Bible about forgiveness and discuss the importance of forgiveness, such as, “If you do not forgive others, my Father in heaven will not forgive you.” As a group, we will compare and contrast what is in our curriculum to God’s Word, emphasizing that His word is true and above all else.

I have been concerned about some of the classic books we will read since the content is far from biblical teaching. Using these techniques, students can evaluate the text in light of biblical truth, comparing and contrasting biblical principles they see and those they do not see in the literature. The text can be studied critically regarding its departure from biblical teaching.
