An example presented in the teaching was of a science class in which the doctrine of man (as taught in Bible study) would be used to inform one’s understanding of a science documentary representing a secular understanding of man. Students would be challenged to consider the claims of the science documentary in light of Scripture.

You may find rust on the playground, drainage areas that are dug out by rain, or maybe signs leaning from wind. Discuss what could be done to prevent the damage. Now go inside and talk about how some elements can wear down others. Segway into Christian mindset. How do worldly elements (words, music, technology, peers) can wear down our Christian walk if we don’t wear the best spiritual armor. Erosion of the heart and mind can eat away over time and do damage to our Christian life.

I feel like they pair well with the truths found in the word. For example in history we learn about the pilgrims and how God used Squanto to aid in their survival after his own difficult journey back home from being kidnapped and sold into slavery by the Spanish. We discuss God’s timing and perfect plan for both the pilgrims and Squanto. Relating it back to what scripture has to say about these. We explore His provision and relate it back to other stories in scripture that we have seen God provide as well, such as Moses and the Israelites. I believe it is extremely important to show connections between lessons you are teaching and how they interface with the Bible! It brings the Bible to life for the students, helps them make sense of our world, and also builds a strong foundation for them to stand on spiritually.
