This year I am starting the special Education program at our school and one big way I want to include parents is to get them trained to help my struggling students. I think we have amazing parents that would welcome the opportunity to work with this group of kids. Secondly I want to do a training about ADHD/ADD to give parents resources to help them help their kids.

Last year, our school created a “business directory” where parents could share what business they owned with the wider community. I think having a school-wide or classroom questionnaire of what skills and strengths parents possess would be a good way to reach out to- and incorporate them into what classroom needs teachers have.

I love this idea – it is something that I had never considered doing in my middle school world language classroom before. I could invite parents that are bilingual (in any languages, really) to come in and share their language learning story. If there are parents (or other family members) that are fluent in the language that I teach, I could invite them to course and “interview” them in the target language – perhaps about a topic that we are studying (such as families…).

Have parents be a part of our chapel lessons
Have parents be a part of classroom readings
Have parents be room parents that help our teachers with lessons -
Have a parent that loves to read come in and read to the course or a parent that loves music come in a lead worship 🙂
