This is a stormy north-east wind that is mostly found active in Arabia. This type of wind can violently take hold of boats and ships tossing them around. In this story this wind was a part of the storm that caused a shipwreck.

I am inclined to say that the winds were Frontal winds because of the struggle the sailors w.ere having iaintaining the boat secured and the risk of becoming shipwrecked. The deciding factor for me was the potential losses and the storms. However, it is reasonable to assume they were Khamsin winds

This passage about the Storm shows us that the wind blows against the ships in the harbor at Crete. A very strong Hurricane force wind came on the Island. Luke tells the reader that the sailors had no choice but to let go and allow it to be driven away, vs 14.

This type of wind is a frontal wind such as a Medicane, or typhoon-strength wind. It is significant because it drove the Paul’s ship off course causing him to shipwreck.

The wind is described similar to a typhoon or huricane in force, which opposed the direction in which they were traveling, thus blowing them off course.
