“14 Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the Northeaster, swept down from the island. ” – This must be a hurricane. Apostle Paul gave the warning to the centurion, but he did not listen. He rather follow the advice of the pilot and the owner of the cargo ship. This hurricane sank the ship, but it made the Gospel to reach Malta, which was not a destination for Julius, the centurion.

A Mediterranean hurricane – medicane – called a ‘northeaster’ in my Bible and was mostly likely a frontal wind, as these are the winds that close down shipping.

Acts 27:14: “But not long after, a tempestuous head wind arose, called Euroclydon.”
The wind is likely to be the frontal wind during the winter season, a strong wind. At that time, if the boat encountered such wind while sailing on the Mediterranean Sea, the ship would always be turned over.
