Reframing to shift the focus from the presenting problem to the deeper issues of relationships is important because it helps to peel away the layers guilt, shame, fear, etc. and to expose the true source of the problem. What may appear as unimportant may have deeply concealed root causes that were never addressed and possibly suppressed. Shifting the focus allows us to help our friend to uncover the deeper issue that is feeding the present problem. Shifting the focus helps to clarify the vision, understand beliefs and relationships to provide effective SoulCare under the guidance of the Spirit of God.

If we dwell on the presenting problem, we are missing the story of their soul. We are ignoring our own brokenness and moving towards the person with an intention to fix their issue. We must focus away from their presenting problem, in order to hear more of where the Spirit may be wanting to move in their story.

The shift is important because it indicates the person feels safe as he/she allows the SoulCarer below their waterline so the Holy Spirit can work on the vision.

The shift is important to get to the core of the issue and starts to show the story of his or her soul.

Reframing is where the shift comes to the story of someone’s soul. Here we move from the present situation to the real root problem
