Soul care is about God’s good care for a person beyond the presenting problem.

The shift is important because without it the person presenting his/her problem with not feel safe.
When the shift occurs the way is opened for the Spirit of God to supply through me to him/her care for the soul.

Reframing questions shift the focus from the presenting problem to the deeper issue of relationships by: 1) asking questions that shifts the focus toward past and present relationships (ex: how does your wife feel about this outburst of yours); 2) asking about the person’s feeling toward their relationship with you (perhaps begin with sharing a positive feeling you have toward your friend); 3) Asking about their relationship with God (perhaps a question such as, “If God were in the room with you during your outburst how would he react?”).
Walking alongside a friend from where they are toward a deeper and closer relationship with God is the vision we should have for anyone in which we offer SoulCare.

Because underneath is where the true issue lies. The outward manifestation of the issue is not nearly as important as what is causing it internally. When we make this shift, we move towards the source, and other areas where it affects us and those around us.

To stay on the level of presenting problem will press us towards inadequate “solutions” such as behavior management or identifying empathically. To seek what is beneath in the real of relationships moves to the place where God himself is relating to this individual.
