I am currently an assistant administrator, but biblical integration is at the forefront of what we focus on for PD and teachers throughout the year. Our school started taking a closer look at biblical worldview immersion two years ago and we continue to try and support teachers in the integration journey. Many of our teachers are coming from public schools where they have not had to do this before. As a previous public school teacher, I believe this is an amazing direction for so many Christian educators. We work hard to show Christ to students daily and the task of talking about the tough issues in life and showing the relevance of God should be something we strive for in the daily education.

I loved the idea of the colored markers for identifying/discerning biblical concepts within a passage. I often use newsela articles with my students as they include high interest and current topics. Students do a “close read” with the article and prepare conversation points for a course discussion. This year, I’ll include the biblical worldview activity mentioned as well as having student use their Bible for finding specific verses that connect with the topic. This is be a good improvement to reading activities!

One idea I have for a biblically integrated assignment is having students evaluate current events from a biblical perspective. For example, if there is a current event about a war, I could then have the students work together to see what the Bible says about war. Questions such as: “Is war justified? Did Jesus talk about war? What are some biblical grounds for war?” would help them think through this current event in a biblical manner.

When I taught math, we talked about how God put mathematical order and logic into our universe. Looking ahead to next year, I’d like to specify on my lesson plans for each unit how it is biblically integrated. If I write it on my plans, I will remember to talk about it with the students. I will use the list of worldview questions and pick which ones fit with each unit. For example, for my unit on digital citizenship for technology, we can talk about how we know what is right and wrong.

I currently don’t have any biblically integrated assignments or assessments, but I was thinking that it would be interesting to watch a commercial and discern the truth or untruths in it.
