In my AP Psychology course, the students must prepare a presentation on one of the approaches to psychology (behavioral, cognitive, ..)They have to compare the theory to the truths was know based on the Bible. I think that it works well because the students have to use their own words. Also, the students will then learn from their peers.

This past year with a heated discussion, even with 3rd graders, in regards to the Presidential election. We were able to discuss that whoever is in office, we as believers need to pray for our leaders no matter if that is the person who we wanted in office or not.

My favorite lesson of the year was when we were talking about dinosaurs dinosaurs and fossils. I took the student to Job 40-41. We has a course discussion about the creatures described and then the students drew pictures of the creatures. It was amazing to see the students get so excited about God’s word.

For my final exam in Biology I had my students pick a disease and write a paper or present on that disease. Within their rubric they were responsible for incorporating a biblical framework for how we could deal with this disease and write on the ethics of how the disease has been handled in the scientific community to this point. Overall, this assignment went very well and hit home for a lot of the students. In reflection, I plan on giving my students specific examples of how they could incorporate a biblical framework into their paper as the better assist them in the writing process.

While I have a long way to go with biblical integration, I have a favorite lessons where it comes fairly naturally. In science we have a lesson on animals and their adaptations. We go back to the beginning of scripture and read to remind ourselves how God created them and how he gave the task to Adam to name them all. We take a look at all the adaptations of a giraffe first. There are several amazing things God did for the giraffe, such as gave it an extra strong heart so it can pump the blood up its long neck, the ability to sleep standing up, and it only requires about 30 minutes of sleep in 24 hours so it can be alert to its predators. There are several more and as we talk about each one the kids are more and more amazed. Then we also get to discuss creation versus evolution. Evolutions would say those adaptations happened over millions of years, but from our reading in the Bible we know God created them this way and just looking at these adaptations points us to an all knowing, very ordered not happenstance, creative God. The students then research an animal of their choice to discover more of God’s handiwork. I think I could also include the scripture about he takes care of the lilies of the fields and the birds of the air, how much more does he care for you his child. That could lead us down another great path!
