A daily devotional is helpful, especially for a new Christian who needs some guidance in Bible study. Small group Bible studies can help us be accountable to other Christians and learn from them. Prayer and meditation is important to dig deeper into Scripture.

I think that even though study notes, concordances, and commentaries can be helpful in understanding the text, we forget that the Spirit, who inspired the Word, lives inside of us. So I think it can be a really good practice to sit down with God’s Word and prayerfully ask him to reveal what the text says as we read. I find it helpful to reflect through writing notes, application, and prayers as we store God’s Word in our hearts.

I attended a study group where we read the scripture 3 times. The first, just to read. The second, to pull out individual words that God placed on our hearts and the final time to discern what God wanted us to learn from the passage. It was a very personal experience but also very powerful. Hearing how others took different words of meaning to apply to their lives. I really enjoyed it and because it was so personal no one ever felt they were doing it wrong. God speaks to us differently and hearing his message is powerful.

I like to spend time reading and reading a passage. This helps me gain a greater understanding.
