To begin with I find it is most helpful to have accountability in studying the Bible. If I have others to discuss what we are learning with others I am more faithful to be disciplined in that study. That is not necessarily a technique but a helpful tool for Bible study. I find it helpful to have a study Bible or commentary to help guide me. I do not want to read the Bible with the thought, “What does this mean to me?” It doesn’t matter what it means to me as my pastor husband likes to say. It matters what it means. I believe beginning and ending your Bible study with prayer is also a helpful technique. Ask the Spirit to reveal truth to you as you study and as you end ask him to help you apply and remember what you have learned. Being willing to ask questions of those with more understanding than I have is also very helpful.

I like to read a passage, and then take a deeper dive into the cross references and try to grasp the connections.

One of the Bible-study techniques that I find helpful is to write down Scripture. Writing it down actually makes me slow down and focus on the words and phrases and makes me think. When reading alone, I miss so much. Our Sunday morning group is going through the Book of Luke and the teacher goes verse by verse and digs into the meaning of some words as he teaches and that is also very helpful to me.

I really find the Bible App helpful in studying scripture. I usually start my day reading the daily Bible verse and then dig deeper to read the full chapter in order to understand it’s context. Also, there are many Bible study plans to choose from that help me grow in my faith and season I’m walking through.

A Bible study that I have found helpful is going by my weekly readings through church or daily scripture readings. I will get a little more in depth on what it is saying and how I can apply it to my life. If it can be applied to my teaching lessons, I will integrate them in for my students to marinate on them and become surprised when I hear them repeat them in their reviews.
