The most helpful one I have used is studying with accountability. One example of this was when my whole church did the read through the Bible in a year program. Every Sunday or small group night you would run into people who were reading the same passage as you. Questions about the passage or things that God had encouraged you with came up easily in conversation. Admitting that you were behind became a necessity sometimes, but having others to talk to helped spur you on. Another example of this is reading the same Scriptures in a Bible study small group. If you have a group to prepare for you are much more likely to stay consistent. Also, God reveals different facets of Himself to us at different times, so hearing from fellow believers what God showed them is very encouraging!

Rereading passages, memorization, and looking at study Bible notes.

One technique I use in my Bible-study is lectio divina. It’s a process that allows for you to be immersed in scripture. You read a passage, meditate/reflect on the passage and then respond. I enjoy this kind of study because it involves repetition of scripture and also encourages sitting and listening. We are always so busy and life is so noisy. It’s a breath of fresh air to be in the silence with God.

It’s pretty simple, but I find that sticking with the formula of Observation-Interpretation-Application to be quite helpful.
