I really enjoy studying the Bible in a group. Hearing other people’s thoughts and having fruitful conversation really help me to engage more with scripture.

Use of a study Bible and more than one translation can be helpful to understanding Biblical context.

There are so many different techniques I have used over the years, from using study books to independent study. I have never read the Bible cover to cover, but I think I have read all of it at one point or another.
One of the techniques I have used in the past that was a wonderful way to learn and seek what God had for me was to just READ. I started with Genesis 1 and read until something jumped out at me. It could have been a small thing or a mind-blowing revelation. I would follow the rabbit trails of cross-references and study notes in my Bible. I would look up a word in the verse that stood out to me and follow all the references in the back of my Bible to see where it would lead me, what I would learn. Each session, I would make it a point to not stop until I learned something new. During this time, I also kept a journal of my journey and of what God led me to pray over each day. Looking back, I was able to see God working in and through me just by being faithful in my study and prayer life.

I like going deep on a particular text and then studying connected texts while the Lord does something in my heart.
