I have learned I should feel free to share my story. I often hold back. We’re a small school and most of us attend church together as well. I think it is assumed most of our families know. I will work on making sure I’m more upfront about my story. I will also be more conscientious of my biblical integration. It is always an area we’re told we need to work on. I think in some subjects its harder to wrap our minds around. I will start my planning period by intentionally understanding how the subject matter applies biblically.

1, I will spend more time helping my students think through the “big questions” of life (who they are, where they come from, why they are alive, etc) and discuss these questions as a course in an age-appropriate level through the lens of God’s Word. I have done that some in the past, especially during Bible course, but not with as purposeful and focused an effort as I should have been doing this.
    2. I want to include more parents on a regular basis in the classroom if possible as they are the ones held responsible by God for their children. I want to make sure parents know they are welcome and valued by me and the school to be involved in their children’s education.

I’m reminded of the importance of not just tagging a Bible verse onto my art lessons, but to integrate Biblical truth fully into my lessons. I’ve neglected praying with my students at the start of course and plan to start each course with a prayer thanking God for the beauty in the world around us and for making us in His image to be creative. We will look for the Good, Beautiful, and True in all the artwork we study.

This course helped me realize the importance of nurture in the classroom. I teach freshman girls, and sometimes it’s easy to forget that even though they are not “little kids”, they still need nurturing, and love in a classroom environment.
